MSM (dimethyl sulfone) is an organic sulphur compound in the form of a white, odourless powder, highly soluble in water with anti-inflammatory properties. It is an important element that cannot be missing in a horse’s body. Together with the amino acid, methionine, it participates in the synthesis of collagen, which strengthens connective tissues such as tendons, ligaments, and articular cartilage.

Sulphur deficiency causes muscle and joint pain, which results in longer recovery after exercise. That is why it is so important to supplement this macronutrient, which in nature occurs only in raw vegetables, fruits, grains, and grasses.

Unfortunately, any thermal treatment, pasteurization and preservation of feed or supplements, destroy this compound, which degrades to biologically inactive forms.

Using MSM has many advantages as it has no side effects and is quickly digestible. From the time it is taken, it takes 24 hours to reach almost all the horse’s body cells.

MSM improves the appearance of hair, mane, and tail, as well as hooves, as sulphur is essential to produce keratin – a component of the hair, and collagen – a component of connective and cartilage tissues.

Chondroitin sulphate is a substance supporting the work of the joints, it is an important component of the articular cartilage. Thanks to chondroitin, proteoglycans are produced, the function of which is to produce synovial fluid, ensuring lubrication and protection of joints, against injuries. This substance is produced endogenously, that is, inside the horse’s body. Its amount, however, decreases with age, and it is also insufficient when the joints are overloaded, e.g. with sports.

The source of chondroitin in our supplement is shark cartilage.

Glucosamine sulphate is associated with the proper functioning of connective tissues – ligaments and tendons. It is one of the main components of the synovial fluid. It takes part in the synthesis of proteoglycans (building substances of articular cartilage), which allows to strengthen and even aid the affected joints. During periods of high physical exertion, greater strain on the joints and in old age, the body produces less glucosamine than it needs. And if it is missing, the joints will not work correctly.

Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is a water-soluble vitamin necessary for the proper functioning of the body. It is very unstable, constantly consumed and not stored in the body, hence the need for daily replenishment. Vitamin C is involved in many processes in the horse’s body, is a powerful antioxidant and contributes to the protection of cells against oxidative stress. Many important functions of vitamin C in the body result from its participation in the synthesis of collagen – the main protein of connective tissue, responsible for the elasticity of the skin, gums, articular cartilage, tendons, and blood vessels. Vitamin C is therefore important, among others, for a good condition of the coat, maintenance of healthy joints and protection of arteries and veins against adverse changes. It affects the fusion of bones and supports the healing of wounds.

EQUIVIT ARTHRO COMPLEX ™️ is a dietary supplement that combines MSM (dimethyl sulfone), chondroitin sulphate, glucosamine sulphate and Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid).

It is a composition of ingredients that facilitates the so-called lubrication of joints, intended for sport horses and older horses.

The combined action of glucosamine and chondroitin together with MSM causes synergy, (i.e. the interaction of several ingredients enhancing their effect).

This is the only proper way to restore mobility and rebuild damaged joint structures or protect it against damage, it reduces the activity of enzymes that are destructive to joint cartilage.
